(in)Frequently Asked Questions

Every website worth a flip has a Frequently Asked Questions area. Unfortunately, people don't ask me a whole lot of questions, hence, the (in)Frequently Asked Questions. Take a gander below:

Q: What is the site all about?

A: I'm a writer, trying to get published, so I thought a website would be a good way to get some publicity and hopefully get some people to read my stuff. It is 2008, you know, and everything is on the innernets these days.

Q: But arkirby.com? Isn't using your name for your website address a little, well, pretentious?

A: Probably so. But I couldn't think of a clever name for the site, so I did what I could. It works for J.K. Rowling.

Q: J.K. Rowling? The lady that wrote all the Harry Potter books?

A: Yes, her.

Q: So tell me about this book...

A: I'm writing a novel called Committed. It's a romantic comedy. A romantic comedy with super powers, shadowy secret agencies, aliens, and a talking cat.

Q: Sounds pretty complex.

A: Not really. In a lot of ways it's pretty silly. Kind of a cross between Douglas Adams and Hunter S. Thompson. I hope you'll like it.

Q: I'm sure I will. But why are you putting the book on the web in serial format?

A: Have you ever tried to read an entire book online? I haven't, but I'm pretty certain it would be, to say the least, tedious. So I stole the idea of publishing the book in an episodic format from Charles Dickens. He didn't seem to mind. Tom Wolfe also published Bonfire of the Vanities in serial form in Rolling Stone, and that seemed to work out okay for him. Of course, my wife had a little something to do with it as well. Behind every great man is a great woman, you know. And I've got a really great one helping me, not only with the site but with every other aspect of my life.

Q: Really? Does she have a sister?

A: She's got three, actually, only one of whom is married at the moment.

Q: Can I have the number for one of the single ones?

A: No.

Q: Okay then. Now what's all this other stuff on the site?

A: I'm not just about my novel. I like to think I've got some other good stuff as well, so I put it up on the site also. The pieces run the gamut from politics to philosophy, and pretty much everything in between. As is the case with the novel, I hope you like it.

Q: Anything else I should know?

A: That's about it. Now go read my stuff!

Do you have an (in)Frequently Asked Question which should be added to arkirby.com? Send your questions to admin@arkirby.com and we'll put the best ones (as well as the answers, it would be silly to post the questions by themselves) on this page!
